BGC Ottawa announced today that Sylvie Madely has been appointed to the role of Chief Advancement Officer. Madely’s first day with BGC Ottawa was on Monday, April 8.

“I’m thrilled to be part of an organization that has such a powerful impact – helping thousands of kids and teens, many living in Ottawa’s most vulnerable communities, reach their full potential,” said Madely, BGC Ottawa’s Chief Advancement Officer. “I look forward to engaging with our dedicated community of donors and supporters whose generosity is so crucial to the Club’s success.”

In this role, Madely will oversee resource development for BGC Ottawa by crafting and implementing an ambitious fundraising strategy, building and shaping the internal and external advancement structure, and building capacity for continued growth and development success. She joins Adam Joiner (Chief Executive Officer), Medin Admasu (Chief Programs Officer) and Marcus Hewitt (Chief Finance Officer) on the Club’s Executive Committee.

“Sylvie’s passion, energy and excitement is hard to match when it comes to working with children and youth,” said Joiner, BGC Ottawa’s Chief Executive Officer. “Her experience will allow BGC Ottawa to grow and thrive in all areas of Advancement, while we continue to support young people throughout Ottawa who need access to our life-changing programs and services to learn, grow and become their best selves.”

Madely comes to BGC Ottawa from the Canadian Museum of History, where she was Vice-President, Development and Membership since 2019. In this role, she led the Museum’s fundraising team and served as a trusted adviser to its Senior Leadership Team. She also had oversight responsibility for the Museum’s membership program.

A seasoned nonprofit executive, Sylvie joined the Canadian Museum of History with 22 years of experience in fundraising strategy and execution. From 2017 to 2019 she served as President of the RCMP Foundation, a national charity supporting community programs for at-risk children and youth.

From 2013 to 2017, Madely served as Vice-President of Fundraising, Marketing and Partnerships at CARE Canada, a humanitarian agency dedicated to ending poverty and injustice, with a focus on women and girls.

Prior to CARE Canada, Madely worked in senior fundraising roles at KCI Ketchum Canada, the YMCA of the National Capital Region, the University of Ottawa and the National Gallery of Canada. She began her nonprofit career in Toronto as a Government Relations Officer and Major Gifts Manager at TVOntario.

Hailing from Montreal, Madely is passionate about helping young people and strives to make a difference in their lives. She is thrilled to be part of the BGC Ottawa Family and will work diligently to build community at the grassroots level, while transforming the lives of kids and teens throughout Ottawa.
