Volunteer FAQ

What does it mean to be a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa?

It is the mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life. As a volunteer, you become a key part of this mission. By offering your time and services as a volunteer, you will be helping the children and youth of Ottawa as well as the community as a whole.

What are the requirements to be a BGCO volunteer?

We ask that our volunteers:

  • Have an interest in supporting the children and youth of Ottawa
  • Are committed to volunteering on a consistent basis
  • Obtain a police record check
  • Have a great attitude!

For more, please see our Become a volunteer section.

I submitted my application . . . now what?

Our Coordinator of Volunteer Services carefully reviews all applications and matches volunteers with vacancies that best fit their skills. After this process, prospective volunteers will be contacted to arrange an interview. At the interview, an explanation of the next steps will be provided.

I really want to work at a specific Clubhouse/event. Can I?

Every effort is made to match volunteers with the location, event or activity that they want. However, sometimes it is not always possible for volunteers to get their first choices. Please contact our Coordinator of Volunteer Services to discuss your options.
