Heatherington is a diverse community rich with culture. It is located in the south end of Ottawa and highlights the uniqueness of our city. The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa offers several programs in this community with the intention of helping children and youth with academic success, enhancing positive social skills, improving healthy behaviour and increased participation in recreational and social activities. Heatherington is truly a great neighbourhood and it offers a wonderful experience for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa staff who work there.

Please note that all Heatherington programs are run out of 1495 Heatherington Road.
We offer several programs in the Heatherington community which can be explored in detail on our website.
Homework Club
One of the core programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa is Homework Club. This program allows children to have a quiet space to complete assignments under the guidance of trained staff. The Homework Club ensures that children have access to tutoring, school supplies, a computer and a printer. Throughout the school year, the members can earn points and awards from their school work and projects. The points can be collected and cashed in for prizes, gift cards and at year end, a fun outing for the top point leaders.
Reading Club
The Reading Club is a newly implemented program and will be offered in conjunction with our Homework Club. Thanks to the Chris Bosh Foundation, the Reading Club has been created to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop their reading skills.
Peer Mentoring Program
The Peer Mentoring Program is an innovative junior leadership program, where our older members are paired up with a junior member who would benefit from the extra support in homework club, or with any other activity, such as having a “reading buddy”. Having a Peer Mentor allows our younger members to benefit from the additional guidance, or support from an older youth, while at the same time, it provides our older members to gain some life skills, such as leadership and responsibility.
Recreation
The recreation program offered in the Heatherington community ensures that each member is active and engaged in a variety of physical activities. The recreational activities differ nightly (some of the programming will be offered out of the Prince of Peace school gym), with emphasis being on inspiring all children to recognize the importance of physical fitness.
The Police Athletic League
The Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is a year round competitive sports program. This program is skill development / leadership focused and comes with all the traditional expectations of an organized sports league, such as awards nights, uniforms, and fully certified officials. PAL is complemented by less competitive intramural programming for all levels of athletes including Inner Clubhouse programs and City wide sports programs.
Summer Camp
The Summer Camp season has come to a close this year; we look forward to expanding and building on this program in 2012.
One of the Heatherington Summer Camp outings this year was an exciting trip to Mont Cascade, where the members swam and took advantage of the thrilling waterslides. All of the children and staff involved had a fun filled day together and are looking forward to summer camp again next year.
