Being able to feel safe and supported is important to children and youth. It can mean feeling accepted, seen and heard by those they trust. When Members come to our Clubhouses after school, they are offered a safe space to do their homework, play and create while enjoying healthy snacks.
It is through support from donors like you that we are able to provide these programs and services for FREE to 4,500 members each year. But we know we can do more for the many children and young people in vulnerable neighbourhoods in our city.
Today, I want to share a bold vision with you. This goal may be the most significant target we have ever had in our one-hundred-year history. We aim to double our Members and our impact in the next four years and here is why.
The pandemic has highlighted for me, and many in Ottawa, that we need to do more. Our young Members need us. Especially as we see neighbours and neighbourhoods struggling to get through the day, we know we can do more with your help.
By visiting our Clubhouses, children and youth experience quality research-backed and impact-based programming that improve their day-to-day lives and future outcomes. Many of our programs empower youth to focus on good health and decision-making skills. They are encouraged to discover their inner abilities which they had all along.
Here is what Olivia, a BGCO Member had to say.
Olivia was shy and timid when she first joined BGCO.
Through the Leaders4Life program, she discovered her leadership skills.
Like Olivia, you can change young lives today. More children and youth will enjoy free services and programs at our Clubhouses and satellite locations, and youth outreach work with your help.
Today, make a gift that will help young people in Ottawa belong, believe and achieve. Bring hope to their lives. I have hope too. I hope that every youth in Ottawa will experience a place where they feel seen, heard, and accepted.
