Spring is the time of year when the spirit brightens and comes alive with new ideas and fresh starts. It brings a feeling of hope and a promise that warmer days are ahead. It’s the perfect time to turn over a new leaf and to support your community like never before!
Generous people and incredible partners sprang into action to support BGC Ottawa this spring, helping bring awareness to our amazing programs and community services. There is still plenty of time to support each initiative, and the Club.
1. Help make this Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr one to remember.
For the fifth consecutive year, Ottawa Muslim Community Services is doing their part to help support families in need throughout the National Capital Region in preparation for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. During this month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community, more than 400 families have received a Ramadan Food Hamper. Our friends at Loblaws graciously added to that total by donating more than 140 Ramadan Food Hampers directly to BGC Ottawa families.
The generosity of many has been felt throughout the city, but there is still time to be a part of something GREAT! Sponsor a family today through the Ottawa Muslim Community Services Ramadan Food Hamper Program.
2. Walk THIS Way… and by THIS way, we mean to Canadian Tire Centre.
Adam Copland and his friends Ethan, Alex and Liam are taking this walking thing pretty seriously, just like their Ottawa Senators. On Saturday, April 6, they will be lacing up their sneakers to make the trek from Lansdowne Park to Canadian Tire Centre for Fan Appreciation Night.
And why not use it as an opportunity to raise money for a great cause, one that the team’s beloved Captain supports – BGC Ottawa’s Tkachuk’s Captains?
“It’s an incredible feeling to support the community that I grew up in and still live in today,” said Copland. “Growing up, playing sports with my friends and classmates was important to me. I’ve been able to experience first-hand the incredible skills and friendships that can be made through sports. Every kid should have the chance to have that experience.
This team (Ottawa Senators) has been so important to me and the city for so long. When a player steps up like Brady did and starts helping the community, it’s easy to want to follow along.”
